Same Old Future

One of the things I most enjoyed during my stay at NDU was learning about futurists and forecasting. This knowledge has not offset my sense of impending doom. But it’s given me more things to read.

My Feedspot take on Monday included this post about diversity of perspective (as contrasted to diversity defined along the seven axes of federal discrimination law). Did author correctly note the biases of Artificial General Intelligence along the way? Yes. Is author white and male? I’m going to have to assume yes. I’m sure there are a couple of big companies in this field that are doing good recruitment along the seven axes, but call me when their leadership and retention stats match their recruitment numbers. Til then we got ourselves a false dichotomy.

The Eternal Return

Babushka has a first appointment tomorrow morning with the oncologist for what appears to be stage 4 colon cancer, which was discovered about two weeks ago during an emergency room visit. Babushka-watchers will recall that she had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2004-2005 and that I was her companion for most of her appointments and chemo. Our relationship has changed quite a bit since then, but here I am. Thus tonight finds me overnighting at her place so as to maximize telework time while tending to her medical needs tomorrow.
