The Garfield Rule states that Mommy can only be asked to look and see how funny this “Garfield” strip (or Vine of Will Sasso, or political cartoon) is before she becomes hostile. I named this rule at a time when my kids were all taken with the antics of America’s favorite pre-internet cartoon cat and were constantly checking out Garfield collections from the library. Now that I am less interesting to my adolescent offspring, I have fewer occasions to invoke this rule. However, I am now considering applying it to Dino Spouse’s recitations of pop culture facts from Wikipedia. On the other hand, I know a lot more now about the history of the band Concrete Blonde. This is definitely preferable to his soft rock or Boney M phases a few years back.
